DAVID MICHAEL BECK
With a career spanning 30 years as an award-winning professional
illustrator, David Michael Beck has worked in advertising, editorial, publishing and entertainment. His works have graced the covers of many of the top titles of comic book companies such as Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and Top Cow. He has also produced illustrations for such notables as The American Medical Association, Walt Disney Productions, McDonalds, Anheuser-Busch, Playboy Enterprises, United Airlines and the Grateful Dead. Celebrities such as Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, Hugh Hefner, Christy Hefner, Bill Cosby and Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld have purchased his original artwork for display in their homes or offices.
Sal Abbinanti, David’s art representative, continued his long-standing relationship with Integrated Web Solutions in September of 2003 tasking them to create a web site that would provide both thumbnail and large images combined with background content and pricing for well over 100 pieces of original art. Additionally, the site was built to showcase the wide variety of material and styles David uses in his artwork in order to and help David establish a larger fan base and an online portfolio for publishers, art buyers and art directors to view.
"David is a pro’s pro. You can’t work in this industry for as long as he has and develop the sort of accolades and recognition he has without a combination of immense talent and an unmatched degree of professionalism,” said Sal Abbinanti. "He’s one of those artists where you’ve seen his work but you didn’t know who actually did the work. That’s David, He’s a modest guy. What we needed to do was to promote David and help the public draw the correlation between the artist and his work."
IWS job became one of simply showcasing the artwork. “When you working with such a talent, the best thing you can do in terms of design is get out of the way and let the artwork do all the talking,” said IWS Creative Director John Schwarberg. “From the design standpoint, this is what we did. Technically, our goal was to create enough randomization into the borders and the homepage to showcase as much of the artwork as we could within the bounds of relatively quick downloads and screen space. Simple DHTML allowed us to accomplish that. We always have to keep in mind that the sites we design for illustrators and artists are seen by a very international audience and therefore, we have bandwidth considerations and download speed considerations.”
"Once again, the site IWS built for David and I was amazing, we’re receiving an increasing amount of traffic each month and we’ve received quite a few complimentary e-mails from fans and industry pros." said Sal.
“Sal and the IWS folks did a very nice job of setting up this site. It’s awesome,” said Beck.
Launched in October of 2003, David Michael Beck’s web site receives over
1,700 visitors each month.
